The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama is converting the Grade 2 * Listed Old Library in the city centre of Cardiff into a Performing Arts Centre. Externally, the remodelled entrance reveals the historic fabric and creates an accessible approach to the building where the foyer spills out into the City, with performances from the Conservatoire’s students on the steps which form a new outdoor stage.

Internally, the project includes works to the large reading rooms, to allow them to become light filled, acoustically optimised spaces for the rehearsal and performance of music and drama. An overriding objective of the design is to allow the Old Library to become net zero carbon enabled.
