Residential Competition
The Practice was invited to take part in a competition for the redevelopment of a city block site with a residential scheme.
The site was nestled in a sensitive urban location in a relatively low rise cityscape, and our elegant design explored how we might integrate a large contemporary building into such an historic location.
Using all of our experience in designing residential projects, the Practice designed the scheme from the inside out and outside in, to perfect the apartment layouts and create a high quality living environment.
Whilst the street frontages repair the townscape of the city, the core of the scheme was set around an elegantly landscaped courtyard.
The use of a single cladding material – stone – lends the composition a gravitas which allows the building to sit comfortably in the street. The detailing of the windows and balustrades further reinforce the impression that this is a building of quality.
The rusticated base grounds the development. The middle is an elegant composition of recessed windows with deep reveals and beautifully detailed projecting glass bays. The top of the building is capped by an uplit projecting canopy.
The overall impression is one of calm dignity.
