Leisure Diplomatic Club
The Diplomatic Club masterplan is for a 120 hectare site – equivalent in area to Hyde Park – to the south of Tripoli, encompassing a new town centre with leisure facilities, and 85 houses for the growing international community in Tripoli.
Located in one of the few remaining woodland areas near the city, our proposal is especially sensitive to the natural fauna and wildlife on the site, and distributes single-storey prefabricated modular timber houses around a village centre, focused on a central marketplace. The houses’ over-sailing canopies provide additional shade and open roof terrace space.
As the heart and focus of the masterplan, an open air theatre, restaurants, cafés, and retail space create a vibrant, active village centre. Radiating from this town square, the luxury houses are arranged among the trees to provide privacy and shade the houses from the harsh summer sunlight.
Located on axis with the village centre, the entrance to the leisure centre is a promenade animated with restaurant tables, cafés, and reflecting gardens. At the heart of the leisure centre, the café, swimming pools and recreation area create a vibrant core, and a series of canopies shade the circulation paths from direct sunlight. Within the male and female areas, the changing rooms link the visitors to the public and quieter areas, located with views into the surrounding landscape. The internal courtyards provide filtered sunlight and landscape features, as an oasis within the cluster of buildings.
