This week, Jason Flanagan presented the practice’s performing arts projects at the Sibiu International Theatre Festival. Romania’s largest performing arts festival, Sibiu is into its 25th year, and includes events ranging from lectures and panel discussions to concerts and theatre performances.
Jason took part in a panel event entitled ‘Looking Ahead at the Way Architectural Design, Programming, Technology and the Evolution of Our Communities Will Shape the Theatres and Theatrical Experience of the Future.’ The discussion questioned how theatre and performing arts project can identify and solve the existing needs and issues of clients, and best serve their local communities.
Joined by Joe Melillo, Brooklyn Academy of the Arts; Andrzej Kosendiak, Polish National Forum of Music, and Helen Grassly, Burrell Foley Fischer LLP, the panel presented examples of completed performing arts spaces.
Jason was on hand to showcase Flanagan Lawrence’s various theatre projects, including the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Szczecin Summer Theatre, Live Works and Riverside Studios. He discussed how they fared since completion, whether they achieved their original aspirations, and how they reflect upon evolving business models and artistic requirements.
