The Sunday Times British Home Awards 2017
Melior Street wins Highly Commended in the mixed use category.
22nd Sep 2017
Our Melior Street scheme was yesterday named highly commended in the Sunday Times British Home Awards mixed use category. The development comprises 37 residential units, 4 commercial units at ground level, and includes improvements to the Manna Centre for homeless people and Church facilities.
The Sunday Times British Home Awards recognise the talent, effort and innovation of architects, designers, housebuilders, affordable housing providers and developers working across the residential property sector today. They celebrate the quality of the homes and communities being created in the UK, showcasing the best in design to key players in the property market and central and local government.
Located within the Bermondsey Conservation Area and adjacent to Borough Market, the design approach of Melior Street uses simple elements based around a regenerated street scene and respect for what is already there. The elevational treatment unifies a cohesive design that addresses its context both in articulation and choice of materials, using an external reflection of an internal layout to create a varied and dynamic façade. The use of brickwork in a contemporary way grounds the building in its context and knits in with the Conservation Area.
