Masterplanning   Curzon Park

Flanagan Lawrence won an invited competition to produce a masterplan for a 10-acre site less than 5 minutes’ walk from Birmingham’s city centre. The scheme takes advantage of the demolition of the 1960’s elevated inner ring road, otherwise known as Birmingham’s ‘concrete collar’, creating an opportunity to re-integrate Birmingham Eastside with the existing city centre.

The masterplan is designed to create a distinctive identity and sense of place whilst being an integral part of a much wider and vibrant community, mediating between and facilitating links with the surrounding city centre. The design incorporates Curzon Street Station and the new City Park, which together will form the heart of Eastside. Curzon Street Station will become the centrepiece of a newly created public square, which in turn provides an elegant setting for the Grade II listed building and forms the gateway into the new development.

The outline planning permission provides for 130,000 sqm (1.4 million sqft) of office, residential, hotel and leisure uses. The first phase incorporates an 11,150 sqm (120,000 sqft) speculative office building, a 200-bedroom hotel and retail/leisure space.
