Residential   City Suites, Chapel Street

The scheme is part of Manchester’s wider Greengate regeneration which will deliver a dynamic new quarter for the city centre, transforming 13 hectares of vacant and under-used land and buildings to create a distinctive and diverse mixed use urban quarter, acting as a catalyst to a new phase of cross city regeneration in Salford.

The essence of the design brief was to generate a high quality, landmark building in the heart of the regional centre, with residences offering the best of vibrant, inner city lifestyle – a 17storey tower with mix of apartments catering for a younger, more independent local population. In addition, the scheme will include the provision of hotel-level servicing and facilities, including a reception, gym, lap pool and roof-top lounge.

The building form responds to urban context, providing an active street frontage at ground level, including a large café/ restaurant addressing the public domain and Greengate Square. Public realm is extended right into the heart of the site, while the building form retains important views to the grade 1 listed Manchester Cathedral, particularly from podium level.

The scheme is located next to two major commercial office buildings, also designed by Flanagan Lawrence, positioned above public car parking and a retail plinth integrating a listed Victorian railway viaduct.
