Summer Theatre, Szczecin

Works are progressing well on site at the Summer Theatre in Kasprowicza Park in Szczecin, Poland.

The new precast seating terraces have been installed and the edge beam and grid shell roof are starting to take shape. When complete the outdoor venue will seat 2,500 under an acoustically attenuated fabric roof which covers both the audience and stage.

The double curved grid-shell is independent of the monumental concrete arch designed by Zbigniew Abrahamowicz in 1976. The organic geometry of the roof is designed to hug the natural slope of the hill, and then the roof lifts at the back of the stage to offer picturesque views out to Rusalka Lake and offer the potential to create a scenic backdrop to performances.

Our design will also upgrade the 2,500-seat structure and provide additional facilities including a box office, bathrooms, a café, and a refurbished backstage area.

The restoration and construction of the new enclosure is due to finish in 2022.
