Lord Mayor’s Design Awards
Live Works wins the New Building Award.
31st Jan 2018
Our Live Works scheme has won the New Building Award at the Lord Mayor’s Design Awards ceremony, which took place last night in Newcastle. The project comprises a new centre for children and young people’s writing, in a converted Grade 2 listed almshouse (Live Tales); a vibrant, public ‘pocket park’, which reopens and revitalises the only remaining Grade 2* Georgian courtyard in the city (Live Garden); and new offices where the rental income will fund at least one more play and education project each year for Live Theatre.
The Lord Mayor’s Design Awards recognise, promote and publicise the best architecture and environmental design in Newcastle upon Tyne. In announcing the scheme’s success, the judges describe how ‘this sensitive infilling of a prominent quayside gap site stood out to the judges for its mature integration with the surrounding historic fabric.’
This award follows a highly successful 2017 for Live Works, having won numerous other awards. These include a RIBA National Award, three RIBA North East Regional Awards, and a Civic Trust Award, as well as being a finalist in multiple others.
